It's something you need to start thinking about at least six months before the day, and having a stylist in your corner who will be in charge of your hair leading up to the event and the day of is key.

Hair growth and trim considerations
When you're planning ahead, keep in mind that hair grows approximately 1/2 an inch per month.
You'll probably need some trims before the big day, and trimming your own hair is not for the faint at heart. Tony Masciangelo is a hairstylist and co-owner of Alcorn Hair. He says, "I wouldn't recommend it, although if you have a fringe or bang, a tiny snip of the ends would be ok. Never ever cut your bands horizontally and ALWAYS chip the ends away vertically as this technique will keep the ends soft and should avoid any hair disasters."

Does heat styling help or hinder?
Masciangelo says heat styling does not help hair growth but can hinder it. Hair growth comes from inside your body, so what you do to the hair on your head will not affect regrowth. A healthy diet combined with a regular exercise regimen (that brings fresh oxygen to your cells) will ensure healthy hair growth.
There is absolutely a new no-blow-dry movement occurring. Partly because of this pandemic we are in. We are living in a much simpler time now, and women are beginning to embrace a much more natural or raw vibe. So, if you love the way your hair looks air-dried, do it!

DIY styles to try and avoid
Kirsten Klontz is a Toronto-based stylist and ambassador for Hot Tools Professional. "Some of my favourite looks are the 'undone bun,' soft waves or a French twist. These are all looks which are easily achievable from home, done with just a few simple steps and are absolutely wedding worthy and look fabulous with a veil or accessories."
"I would suggest avoiding anything super intricate; keeping it simple will be key."

Klontz recommends: "No matter what bridal look you are trying to achieve, having a reliable curling iron or flatiron will be essential. "You will want to start by adding products to will give you hold and all-day control," says Klontz. "You should have a volumizer, smoothing cream and hairspray on hand."

Style tip: Book consultations and trials
Eric Del Monaco, official hair artist and colourist for L'Oreal Paris and the creative genius behind the runway looks for Toronto's LG Fashion Week, weighed in.
"I recommend booking at least three months in advance before your wedding to share any pictures of styles that have inspired you for your wedding day style. Also, bring along a picture of your dress so your stylist can see the style of it and the neckline and any hair accessories you may wear—this will direct your look. Plus, bring along an image of the hair accessory or veil - if you plan on wearing one - so that the stylist can see what they have to work with. Book your hair trial at least one month in advance to test out looks."

Monaco says: "Whether you colour at home or at a salon, be sure to keep your colour looking fabulous in advance of your wedding and on the big day. Nothing looks worse than roots or grey hairs poking through!"
