2024 Ins & Outs: Wedding Edition

2024 is here, and that means it’s time for everyone’s favorite blog: wedding trends for the year! If you’re planning a wedding for this year, or hope to plan one soon, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading to learn what’s in and what’s out for the upcoming wedding season.

What’s In

Intimate Weddings– The intimate wedding trend is here to stay another year! Smaller weddings became popular during 2020 out of necessity, but in the last four years they’ve evolved into a celebration that focuses not only on the couple but the guests as well. Intimate weddings allow the happy couple to spend more time with each other, the loved ones that matter most, and really focus on the overall experience for everyone involved.

Experiences– Speaking of the overall experience, 2024 is the year to take it up a notch. From big after-parties to a live painting of the ceremony, and even audio guest books, more and more couples are looking for unforgettable touches to add to their wedding. The best part is experiences can be as extravagant or simple as you want! If you and your partner love game night, consider adding a trivia session during cocktails, or include a fun scavenger hunt during the reception. Photo booths and caricaturists are always popular choices, and we’ve seen couples go as far as bringing in a tattoo artist for a permanent party favor!

Minimoon– Want to extend the newlywed feeling? Book your honeymoon for a later date! Traditionally, the honeymoon starts the day after the wedding, but that doesn’t really give you time to enjoy your reception, or even the day after, because you’re rushing to your destination. Something we’ve seen in recent months is the happy couple choosing to do a staycation near the venue, and planning for an actual honeymoon a few months after the wedding. Not only does this take away some of the stress during the wedding week, it gives you a chance to spend more time with the people celebrating you!

What’s Out

Big Wedding Parties– Big wedding parties have been phasing out for a while now, but that will continue in the 2024 wedding season. With the shift to more intimate weddings, couples are more intentional with who they invite to stand with them on their big day. Taking this a step further, we won’t be surprised to see the actual role the wedding party plays change to something much less formal this year. A popular trend of late has been the wedding party sitting during the ceremony with the rest of the guests, with some not even walking in the processional.

Perfect Portraits– While it’s important to have some traditionally posed wedding photos, a lot of brides and grooms are looking to capture the candid moments through documentary-style photography. Documentary photography focuses on the authenticity and emotion of the event. Not every shot is perfect, and some are even blurred with movement, but that’s the whole point! Another popular option for capturing the big day is a wedding content creator. This is a person hired or assigned to capture the day for you via social media as it’s happening via pictures and video.

No Color– Traditional wedding palettes will never go out of style, but we’re so glad to see bold colors trending again! From monochromatic to every shade of the rainbow, couples aren’t shying away from adding a pop of color to their wedding theme. The best part about this trend is there isn’t really a specific color to focus on—just make it bright and fun! Our suggestion here is to choose what makes you happy, but maybe limit it to three to five colors so it isn’t overwhelming.

If none of these trends sound like something you’re into, don’t worry about it! Your wedding day should be a reflection of you and your significant other. Do what feels right for you!
